The Humble Beginning
The story of Thanksgiving Australia didn’t begin in a boardroom, but on the dusty roads of remote villages in Egypt, Africa, and Asia. In 2018, a small group of philanthropic Australians embarked on a series of charity expeditions. They didn’t go as tourists; they went as witnesses to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of extreme poverty.
They saw children with brilliant minds but no schools, and families with preventable illnesses but no clinics. More importantly, they saw the incredible impact that small, direct interventions from local NGOs were having on these communities.
The Turning Point
Inspired by what they witnessed, the founding members began to contribute personally to these local projects. However, word of their missions spread quickly back home in Australia. Friends, family, and colleagues began to ask the same question: “How can we help too?”
The requests to partner and contribute became so unprecedented that it was clear a formal bridge was needed. In November 2018, Thanksgiving Australia was officially launched out of a collective desire to turn Australian gratitude into global action.
Bridging the Gap Today
In March 2020, we received ACNC registration and DGR status, marking a new chapter of transparency and growth. Today, we stand firm in our promise: Real People. Real Impact. We have no paid staff and no expensive overheads. When you join Thanksgiving Australia, you are joining a team of volunteers who handle your donation with the same care they would their own. From the 100-acre Esna Farm in Egypt that sustains hundreds of families, to literacy programs for mothers in Nepal, we continue to build a future where every community has the tools to thrive independently.
