Mackay Churches Together - Mackay Queesnland

A big thankyou to all who gave of their time, energies and resources to make this year's (2010) Community Festival a success.

The Community Festival put on by Mackay Churches Together (MCT) this year was the biggest and most successful yet of the six years of blessing the community in this way, to the Glory of God. Over 30 of Mackay’s churches were involved in some way, each serving in their own capacity with no agendas, and no competition. Christians were able to publicly thank and praise God, and connect with the community in the Spirit of Grace and Joy as we shared out of His provision. The entire Civic Precinct was filled with activities for all ages: including numbers of children’s activities by ABC Learning Centre, a baby animal farm, rock climbing, train rides, jumping castles, windsurfing, giant games, face painting, merry-go-rounds, clowns and balloons. There were also displays put on by Qld Keep Fit, SES and Qld Police. A Courtesy group wandered through the crowd pinning thankyou ribbons onto Grandparents; handing out thankyou cards with an encouragement to pass them onto others. Free worship CD’s and posters featuring wonders of God’s creation with a relevant scripture were available; and the free bottles of water carried the scripture John 4:13-14. One of our major sponsors, Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal, was so impressed that their large sponsorship has already been promised again for next year. Mayor of Mackay Regional Council Col Meng, representing our other major sponsor gave a TV interview in which he spoke very enthusiastically of the day. As this festival has gained credibility and grown in popularity, it has become a valuable springboard for connections with community members, organizations, businesses, and government. In past years we have had limited exposure in the media except for TV advertising which was covered by sponsors. However this year our local radio station 4MK/ Zinc FM provided three hours of live on-site coverage promoting the day, our sponsors and the churches involved. The Daily Mercury printed large articles with photos, and news coverage was given on Channels 7 and 9.
