SU Breakfast Clubs, Melton - Australia
Scripture Union runs Breakfast Clubs in two of Melton’s secondary schools.
A team member at Staughton College suggested that the students at their club be invited to thank people in their lives. On Thursday May 27th, a number of students took ribbons to give away, or wrote small notes of thanks. At first many claimed to have no-one to thank, but with a few suggestions, they warmed to the possibilities. There were enough resources left over to take to the Kurunjang Secondary College the next morning. Here is the report from one of their team members: “I was asked to encourage the students to write a 'thank you' card to someone who had helped them in any way. At first the students were hesitant to participate in the 'thank you' cards but as each student came by, they took a card and wrote down names of friends, family members and teachers who they would love to thank. Some of the students took one card and some took more. It good to hear some of the stories from the students, from the bond they share with their loved ones to the friendships they are grateful for. “There weren't enough cards to give all the students the opportunity to say thank you but the ones who participated were happy to able to show their appreciation to their special person.” Since one of the aims of the school program is to encourage the students into community action, our National Day of Thanksgiving activity was definitely a success.
