A Community Fair at Humpty Doo, was the Top Ends contribution towards celebrating the National Day of Thanksgiving.
Members of the community came together in a relaxed, friendly environment, with many free activities for children. In addition 27 members of the community were publicly thanked for their generous gifts of time, energy and commitment, and presented with NDOT Thank You certificates. The Fair was officially opened by Ted Warren, Member for Goyder in the NT Legislative Assembly, who also presented the certificates. Another popular MLA, Gerry Wood, was Master of Ceremonies and the Hon Warren Snowdon, Federal Member for Lingiari, presented Volunteer Certificates to the nominated community members. Recipients included indigenous people, seniors, representatives of service organizations, and volunteers. Feedback from the recipients and the wider community was very positive. A band from the local high school played throughout the day, and was much appreciated. Australia Worships in the evening was an ecumenical event, supported by pastors from the Palmerston/Rural Ministers’ Fraternal. Pastors from the Lutheran, Apostolic, Uniting, Baptist, and Anglican churches participated in the service. In the lead up to the National Day of Thanksgiving children in Christian Education classes in three rural primary schools, and members of several Churches wrote out and sent “Thank You” cards to special people throughout the community.
