Governor-General's Statement 2010

Amessage of support for the National Day of Thanksgiving 2010 from
Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia

To those who work to sustain our country, the men and women who dedicate their time and thought and care to business and family, we honour and recognise you.

This year on the National Day of Thanksgiving we pay tribute to Australians who work in small business, in trades, and on the land.

It is a day to express our appreciation for their contribution to our nation's economy and wealth, our natural and built environments, our schools, and the wellbeing and quality of life of our families and communities.

We also thank grandparents for the love, support and counsel they give our children and grandchildren, and the example they offer all young Australians of the benefits of hard work, patience, compassion and healthy living.
We are indebted to them for their efforts in building the nation we cherish today.

I celebrate these things with all Australians on our National Day of Thanksgiving.
